Well that was annoying to say the least…

Monday 12th August 2019 was possibly the most “are you kidding me?!?!” day of my life. You may recognise this date as the due date of ASS #1 Steps 3-6.

A question for the readers:

Do you think that one of these events is dependant of the other? Let me know what you think down below!

I had been happily hastily working on my assignment on Sunday night without a worry in the world. Typing away hundreds of words (that I probably should’ve been typing three nights ago!) into my document ‘Kassidy Hinton Steps 2-6’. Having completed steps 1, 2, 4 and 6 (barely) I had left myself the two largest steps for last. Which wasn’t my smartest move of the week, but that’s bedside the point.

My computer had been telling me for about a week at this point that there wasn’t something wrong with the file and it couldn’t upload to OneDrive. This wasn’t my main concern as the computer was telling me that it was ‘saved to this PC’. Stay with me here, I had opened this file about 15 times a day for two weeks and there was no problem what so ever.  I hit save at 10:55am on Monday 12th August, happy with my 3,500 words – yes it was only 3,500 words but a lot of effort went into those 3,500 words, trust me! I had already opened moodle, triple checked it was the right file then dropped it in the submission box- awesome my first assignment done! Or so I had thought, once I had completed the submission, I checked one more time that it was the right file.

Now you can probably guess what happened next, it wasn’t the right file. Well it had the same name it was just the version from last week. Unsure of how I did it I emailed Maria and told her I had submitted the wrong file and luckily, she replied less than half an hour later and told me she had reverted moodle back to draft mode. Keep in mind that in that half an hour I had about two mental breakdowns, no I’m not kidding.

So, I went back into moodle to submit the RIGHT FILE. Checked it, yep right second time lucky… Drag and drop! Phew! That was close only half an hour late that can’t be much of a penalty, right? No apparently it wasn’t my time to relax today. For some UNKNOWN reason the file was correct when I previewed it in my documents but once I put it into moodle it was only 1,000 words. Strange, maybe I should open it normally and try one more time. Well better luck next time Kassidy! That file doesn’t actually exist anymore.

Long story short I submitted my assignment three hours late (with 3,000 words) because I had to retype basically everything I had done in the past seven days.

But there’s always a positive, next time round I will save to my USB and create a double copy of assignments before I submit. And hopefully you have learned something from my mistake as well 😊

New week resolution- Peerwise

If I’m being completely honest I was not someone who became addicted to peerwise. I spent quite a while on there wondering how I was ever going to write a good question that would genuinely benefit the people answering it. I had answered heaps of questions, followed some authors and even earned several badges. But writing a question was what really stumped me.

However, once I wrote a question it didn’t seem nearly as hard as I had thought. I chose a concept that I really understood and wrote a question.

Although, it has been three weeks and I’ve only written one question, somehow I met the requirements to get the full mark for Peerwise. I haven’t been on there since week 2 so that’s a new week resolution for myself. Write some more questions!

“You should aim to write about 2-3 questions per week”

Peerwise Marking Guide

I found the annual report, I repeat I have found the annual report!

I will admit I only found my annual reports because I was allocated a new company- but that still counts right?

I was originally allocated the Kuoni Group and as mentioned in my last post I couldn’t their annual reports anywhere. Their website was extremely unhelpful (seriously have a look for yourself! https://kuoni.com/) and the only one I could find on google was from 2011!

How was everyone else’s experience with locating their company’s annual report? Was it near impossible or the front page of the website? Let me know! Back to writing step 3 which will be up on here later this afternoon for some feedback. Really nervous about that 🙂

First Two Weeks in Review- ACCT11059

I started this term already behind. I watched my first lecture and discovered that I had should’ve read the introduction and chapter one by now. Not a good start…

I had personally never read a text as big as the chapters in study guide. So I will admit that it took me four whole days to read chapter one. After making it through, I started my KCQ’s which like the readings took me way longer than expected. I spent my weekend working during the day and pulling all nighters to finish step 1. I felt a massive amount of relief after submitting the assignment 7 minutes early.

WEEK 2

Now onto the next chapter. I decided to print all 12 pages of chapter two to avoid hurting my eyes while reading and re-reading through it late at night. However, I surprised myself and got through it in 80 minutes! I was better prepared this week for the large text and smashed through in the school library during my spare periods.

I joined the PASS session on Tuesday night to find a group of students just as confused and overwhelmed as I was. I really enjoyed the session and would recommend it to anyone in the unit. I got to speak to a lady named Louise (https://twopointoh.school.blog/) who was really lovely to talk to, it was helpful to get some feedback on my KCQ’s and discuss other aspects of the unit such as Peerwise!

Dani (the PASS leader) said that if we only did one productive thing this week we should find everything there is to know about our companies. My company is Swiss and I have no idea where to find financial records!?! If anyone knows how to find them please let me know! Their website wasn’t that helpful either but I’ll come back to it once I’ve gotten some sleep.

As this week comes to a close- I feel prepared yet also unprepared for the upcoming steps 3-6, due in only 14 days time! I only just looked on moodle for the second time this week and my grades have come in! 2.5/3, how did everyone else go? Honestly, that’s a better grade than any one of my first semester assignments from year 11 (face palm). Tomorrow I’m going to read chapter three (time to get the highlighters out!). Note to self; use peerwise on the bus to school! I need to get at least 900 more points before the end of the week to get full marks!

The start of everything!

Hi, I’m Kassidy and ACCT11059 is my first unit I’m studying at university. I am still in Year 11 at high school and have chosen to study this unit through the SUN (Start Uni Now) program, as my sixth subject.

I am beyond excited to begin my university studies in accounting as now three of my six subjects are business related. I’m also studying English, maths, accounting, geography, and I’m currently completing Cert III in Business through my school.

I enrolled in the SUN program because I genuinely love all of the accounting I’ve done at school so far and after doing work experience at an accounting firm I decided to bite the bullet and enrol! I was studying physics as a backup (for primary education) in case accounting wasn’t my thing but I truly loved the subject at school so I have no doubts!

I live in North Queensland and have two younger brothers (14 yrs and 2 yrs) so my house is crazy 24/7. I just bought my first car with money I saved up from my casual job however I’m still on my learners license.

I’m excited to expand my knowledge of accounting and kickstart my tertiary education!
